in august of 2010 ForHorses was researching the prohibition of horses swimming in the water on Hutchinson Island.  I was wondering if anything ever came of it as i am interested in going this summer?    thank you.

(the full discussion can be found on a google search)

Call Charlotte Lombard in St. Lucie County Tourism....772-462-1539...for all info and application for permit.

In my opinion it seems as though, they are discouraging this practice of horses on the beach altogether, but you can all decide for yourselves.

Permits for non residents are now $200 each (used to be $100) and it is only good for 2 horses (use to be up to 8 horses).....afterwards more permits are allowed at $100 each but only for one horse....limit 3 permits (4 horses per person)......WOW!!! Shocked

Permits for residents are still only $50, but for the same terms and limitations as above.

After permit purchase a gate key or code will be given to you for access.

Spoke to Charlotte, rule was rescinded and horses ARE allowed to swim.

No shade though for the horses so we are going to buy a canopy, i guess.  If you bring your own hose you can hookup and rinse them.  There is a covered picnic pavilion for humans.

Riding area is about 3 miles long.

Permit fee is still as stated below (good for one year).
