 Cheesy

OK, so.....what horse feed do you feed......Again, 20 yrs have come and gone....changes have been made....I can talk dog food all day long(I train/breed dogs, so that is my area of expertise)....

Back in the day, I fed straight oats to most horses, then not much....even working horses.  They all got plenty of hay(usually 4-5flakes twice a day, and all the grazing they could handle in paddock).  But, most horses only got a 1/2 scoop of oats a couple of times per day.  A few got sweet feed, but not much.

The sweet feed that we used, we had custom made(the owner of the barn where I trained owned his own feed mill)(he was a bit of an odd duck;))

Anyway, so what do you feed and why?  What will you never ever ever feed, and why?

Looking forward to seeing responses!

PS, if you know of good nutrition websites, that would be great for research.

My last horse was a very hard keeper, but she looked fantastic on Pennfield Omega Fibergized. It kept her weight up without making her hot with extra energy. I've also tried Triple Crown Complete with good results.

if you have a chance... stop by Grand Prix feed.  They have little sample jars and an entire wall of information sheets on the feed they carry.   They are a wealth of information and will be honest with you.    You can read every label and actually see the feed at the same time.

Grand Prix Feed is on Royal Palm?  Or something down near the showgrounds....?

Thanks for the great information!

They are down by the show grounds on Pierson right next to the covered arena.  Congratulations on your new addition and welcome back to the horse world!!!

Grand Prix is on Pierson about 1/4 mile east of South Shore on right side of road. (Obviously, b/c there's the can*al on the left.) They have a small sign. but you'll see covered Thorncroft's covered arena, go in driveway and look to right - Grand Prix Feed.
If possible, speak with Holly.  She has a world of information about feed, supplements, etc.

I love Fibergized for all of my horses, young, old, ponies, easy and hard keepers. It is a great feed! I fed a lazy jumper endouravent for more energy but my hunters are happy healthy and have great coats and feet.
