Can anyone give me some recommendations for property insurance. State Farm is dropping my policy after 20 years and I need a new carrier by September.  The other carriers I have called won't provide coverage to homeowners with horses on their property. I have found one who will, but the premiums are double what I'm now paying.  Kiss Shocked

Check out the search bar here and put in homeowner insurance insanity.
Its pathetic.
I now pay WAY MORE (approx. double) for WAY LESS COVERAGE.

Try Frank at A C Insurance Services- 561-684-8226.  I too was dropped from State Farm after 25 years.  Frank was able to find a policy for me with coverage for the horses.  The premium is a little more than I was paying with State Farm, but far less than what State Farm would have written the policy through Citizen's.  Good luck.

I love Florida Farm Bureau Insurance. My agent is Nevin in West Boynton. He does car (cut my policy price in HALF!), home, life and anything farm/eqestrian related as well. You pay $50 to join the Bureau and then there are tons of benefits like being able to join their  union, business , even ordering florida farm products like produce, cheese, etc.. You will LOVE this insurance company! http://floridafarmbureau.com/ Nevin's number is 561-498-5200

If your homeowners has not dropped you yet then you can switch right over to the Farm Bureau - otherwise if you go uninsured for any length of time you will have to go with Citizens (through the state) for a year. ACK!!! So hurry up and call now!

Try calling Bill Buxton at Buxton Equine Insurance. He really knows the business and is very aware of the differences of insurance with and without horses on your property. Apparently, if you have horses and your ins. company doesn't know and you have a claim, you will NOT be covered. I'm fed up with insurance companies at this point - between my farm, my liability and coverng a few of my horses, I pay an absolute fortune. But better to be safe than sorry Smiley

Not sure where you are all located.. BUT AC Insurance Number is either incorrect or out of business.

Farm Bureau is not writing in the Northern Palm Beach County area.. they are "at capacity" for policies in that area.

Yup.

I am so sad to hear that about Farm Bureau. Maybe they were able to give me a quote because I already have my car insured with them?

Great thread...  please keep the suggestions coming!!!!    as for Farm Bureau... I had to pay for a membership to apply for insurance only to be told that they DO NOT cover property with livestock.   The FARM Bureau doesnt insure horses.   They do, however, insure tomatoes if anyone wants a new hobby Smiley

FB has EXCELLENT car insurance and was writing for homes however I have heard they no longer do this. I am very surprised that you had to pay the $50 fee to join only to find out they couldn't cover you. My agent (Nevin Miller) would never do such a thing! In fact I have sent many people to him and he tells them right off the bat what he can/can't give them. Our car insurance rates were cut by 60% (for better insurance/more coverage) and he didn't charge the $50 fee to join until he knew we were accepted. They insure farms and farm businesses but not individual livestock however our agent had referrals for this. I have been THRILLED with this insurance, by far the best I've ever had (and the cheapest)

Adriana, its me, Kim.   I have a new email and therefore a new username.  I didn't mean to sound argumentative but looking back my reply was just that.  Please accept my apology!
This is a bit of a sore subject right now.   You wouldn't believe the hoops we have to jump through to get insurance including the kind of dog we can have for a pet etc...
We have a separate umbrella policy that covers the horses (through Bill Buxton).    We are having a hard time finding coverage for the structure of our home.   I literally asked the question if I had tomatoes instead of horses would they cover the property and the answer was yes.    It seems ironic that Farmers Insurance won't insure farms.

Hi Sweetie! Didn't know it was you!! LOL! DID YOU REALLY SAY THAT??? I wish I was there to hear the conversation. It is crazy that Farmer's doesn't insure farms. I thought that was the whole point. And its also totally immoral for them to take your membership fee and then not be able to accept you. I would complain to the company and get a refund for sure. I am just so happy that they were able to reduce our rates for the car now that I have a teenage male driver and will have TWO in a little over a year. Pray for me!!! Miss you!!!

As far as the Fl Farm Bureau...My parents took out an 100,000 loan in 1974...I built a house and started a business on the land and paid every payment with my company check when the loan was paid off I tried to get a small improvement loan and they wouldnt give me one...they didnt count the fact that I had paid every payment, never late...my parents have died and they wouldnt give me  for any of the loan payments since my name wasnt on the original loan papers only on every check...go figure !!!....they arent as homey or as familly friendly as thier advertisments make them out to be.....they will make farm  as long as you have the cash in the bank to match your request....I would never even ask them for insurance.

Common Sense Leadership Starts Here...
As we have campaigned around District 25 in the past few months sharing ideas and listening to residents about issues affecting our daily lives, one in particular has been a constant among most; homeowner's insurance.

Recently, on a trip to Washington, D.C. as a member of Florida Farm Bureau's Field to the Hill journey to speak with the Florida delegation, I met a gentleman on the plane from Loxahatchee.  He explained that his homeowner's insurance was now 1 1/2 times his mortgage payment.  He and his wife have lived in their home for 22 years and are seriously considering letting the home go into foreclosure.

This is a devastating story and one that is repeated all over our district due to the lack of competition in our state as well as the ever increasing size of state backed Citizen's Insurance Corporation.

Our county already has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country following the burst of the housing bubble.  Now, to add insult to injury with the impact of homeowner's insurance, or lack thereof, adds another factor to that already devastating number.

The cry for help is not going unheard.  Tonight, at a public forum at Florida International University held by State Senator Oscar Braynon and State Representative Frank Artiles, ideas and solutions will be discussed regarding Citizens Insurance and the ever increasing need for alternatives for homeowners in Florida.

The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m..  I encourage everyone who can attend to join me in this round table discussion.  For more information about attending, please email us at votemelanie@gmail.com.

For more information about our campaign for State Senate District 25, I invite you to visit www.VoteMelanie.com.

As we continue to campaign around the district, we are in need of volunteers to host meet and greets and walk neighborhoods.  Please contact us or sign up on our website to help us spread the message of common sense solutions.

We appreciate your support and ask for your vote on August 14th!

Best Regards,

Melanie Peterson
