Kitty is a beautiful medium haired calico, she is 3 years old gets along with dogs and other cats is declawed and is super sweet. She is the perfect cat besides she doesn't use her litter box when it's dirty. We need to get rid of her this week or we will be bringing her to Peggy Adams. She comes with her cat tower, automatic litterbox (which she won't use but if you have other cats have at it, its worth $200.) and regular litterbox (which she will use)
I wish we could keep her as a barn cat but she is declawed so she must stay inside. We are getting rid of her because we have a 3 month old baby and don't need the extra hair around the house especially when our baby gets tithe crawling stage. This really is a cool cat, she plays with our dogs and comes when you call her (9iftar the time) Kitty is very sweet and adapts to other cats quickly. If I can't find a home for her by next Sunday I will be brining her to Peggy Adams. My baby comes before a cat.

Congratulations on giving birth! Its wonderful that you want to do the very best for your little one...there are soooo many awful parents out there that don't think about the health and well-being of their children until its too late. Your cat sounds beautiful - hope you find her a home instead of subjecting her to possible euthanasia (Peggy Adams is a kill shelter but we have no-kill organizations on this board such as Luvapet); what I'm really praying for though is that the article I am sending helps change your mind so that your entire family, human and furry can stay together happily  Grin - If its dirt and cat hair you are worrying about then your baby can truly benefit by your keeping Kitty! From the linked article below: "Upscale urban infants are at higher risk for some health problems—including allergies, asthma and autoimmune diseases like Type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel disease—than the babies in the rural developing world." In other words, dirty, uncleanliness and yet even dog and cat hair will HELP your child's over-all health. Here is the link to the full article: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703315404575250390129070502.html

Respectfully,

Adriana/Equisician

(mother of three extraordinarily health teenagers (thank you God!) who grew up with more cat and dog hair around them than is probably legal, yet they each have been on antibiotics ONE time in their entire lives and have zero allergies!!!)

Love you Adriana! Very well put!
To add:  My two extremely healthy, extremely actively and extremely fit little girls have grown up on a horse farm with several dogs, cats and horses - and they run barefoot all the time. They are almost never sick - and all of my neat freak  germa-phobe friends have kids out of school all the time because they are almost always sick!! Having pets with children is the greatest gift you can give a child.
I just adopted two adult barn cats last week and in my search was horrified at how MANY cats are up for adoption. Your's would probably not be adopted easily - so you'd be subjecting the cat to a life behind bars or death. And your baby will only gain a furry friend and the amazement she'll find in a pet. Please reconsider. Your baby should always come first, but our pets are part of our family too and unless they cause direct harm, there's always a way to keep them safe and loved.  Wink

Thank you sittin' pretty and love you TOO Claudia  Grin (and miss you terribly!!! did Karyn tell you how sick I got after x-mas? I'm just starting to get my feet back on the ground, literally!) Really great points about your girls; I honestly do not know two more healthy, athletic (not to mention award winning) children as your beautiful girls, and Lordy-Lord we all know they had some *mild* animal exposure along the way; in fact if I am not mistaken they rode ponies before they walked, of course now they no longer walk and only double flip, hahaha!!!! My mom is the best mother in the whole entire Universe and would have at any time done anything for me under the sky - still would to this day - but she was part of that 1970's mentality that everything had to be sterile and lysol'd and ultra clean and I've certainly had my health struggles. Not that I link them together, but you just never know...The past is the past and we didn't know better back then. Super squeaky clean was not only pushed on us by the media and doctors it was a way for a male centered patriarchal society to keep us at home pregnant and scrubbing baseboards instead of outside of the home, in college, at work and accomplishing the once unaccomplished by women. Keeping our homes pristine was part of a backlash against feminism and equality. They even told moms to formula feed exclusively back then because anything man-made was safer than something a woman's body could make, LOL! Now that we have our power, independence and new information based on research and science, we can make enlightened choices. Sorry to get so deep about this, I just really celebrate in the freedom of not worrying about things my mom worried about. Life is too short! Please reconsider Kitty's future. Thank you!!!!

Hi I am a Luv-A-Pet volunteer. We can help you find a home for your cat. I can't promise it will be in a week. We have the cat room at Petsmart and cats can stay for 3 weeks. If they are not adopted they go back to foster for 1 week and back again. If you are willing to act as foster we will be happy to help. If she is already fixed and passes health exam we can get her in faster. Let me know. Happy to help. Peggy Adams will put down if there are behavior problems or health issues. My cat will pee in my bed if the box is dirty. I learned real fast to keep that thing really clean. Now that he has me trained we are good :  )

On a personal note, I am a proud mama of 2 boys. My big man is 3 and my little one is 7 months. We have 1 cat, 2 big dogs, 3 fish and a snail. I could not imagine raising them with out our animal friends in the house. Some of my favorite moments and pictures are of my dogs and cat with the kids. The animals help them learn comapassion and responsibility. Ya, there is hair floating around but that is part of what makes our house a home. I do vace and you can brush your cat. You could even get the cat shaved. (I wouldn 't but you could) At the end of the day cat hair is probably one of the cleaner things they touch. My boys are very healthy with strong immune systems. Please think long and hard about this decision. Give some special thought about the values you want to teach your beautiful little baby. If you still want to rehome your cat, I hope you contact me before bringing her to a shelter. I know this is a hard decision and I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for all your replies, I didn't realize Peggy Adams was a kill shelter, I certainly would not want that for Kitty. Right now I am just to overwhelmed with my new baby and 2 dogs and helping my husband with the horses. If kitty doesn't have a relatively clean litterbox she will go else wear and it's very easy to forget.. Which is why we got the automatic but it scared her. I totally believe in raising kids with animals, we have a pony being bred for our little girl, it's how I grew up too but right now it's 1 more thing I have to do. She really is a cool cat and very beautiful. If I have someone helping me find a home for her I have no problem keeping her until then, ive been procrastinating this for a few months now so I don't mind a little longer for her to go Tina good home.

Don't beat yourself up for thinking that Peggy Adams is no-kill. They present it that way until you read the fine print. Luvapet is a great alternative. My heart aches for you, it is REALLY hard with a new baby if you are 100% free of any responsibilities; and you have so much going on and tremendous work and responsibilities. I remember losing it over the smallest things. A sweet friendly neighbor would bring me a banana bread loaf while my baby was sleeping, the dog would bark and any chance of my taking a nap that day would be completely gone. The sleep deprivation and alienation can be truly awful, dealing with an accident from a cat on top of everything else would push anyone over the edge! The hard thing about cats too is that once something is "marked" by them they will try to go there again no matter what you used to clean. Its very frustrating. Hopefully everyone here will spread the word about Kitty so that the right new home and family will take her in. Crossing my fingers and toes!!!
