The difference here is that the injuries from the car crash are not what killed Scott Wilson. He drowned in the ca.nal. The passion about the guilty verdict and sentence comes from the fact that he didn't have to die. Goodman could have saved his life. But he didn't. He waited a long time before calling for help, and that wasn't even his first phone call. His callous post-crash behavior makes all the difference.

What's his excuse for adopting his girlfriend so he would retain access to his kids sizable trust fund? Was he drunk then too?
And being drunk is NO EXCUSE for illegal or morally corrupt behavior. Maybe if he took responsibility for his irresponsible behavior, like those others did, instead of blaming everyone else and doing everything imaginable to avoid the consequences of his actions, drunk or not, public outcry wouldn't be so severe.

For the first time I looked at the Post pics of the young mans car, I don't know how he could possibly have survived. That being said, it is absolutely wrong to leave the scene of an accident, period and end of sentence. Mr Wilson should have been given the chance to live or die with some dignity of some sort fighting till the end if there were a chance. Its so sad to think that perhaps he could have survived if helped. Where was the rest of the world when this accident took place? It seems like we're never really alone, at least not for long.
While the O/J Simpson case has zero to do with this one, how did he walk away a free man? With people CHEERING yet? The cheering galls me to this day. I like to think we have the best judicial system but, nothing is perfect. After hearing his wifes calls to 911 yet, how did OJ get off scott free?! How did Casey Anthony walk away so easily? You wonder who you dislike the most -- the attorneys, the defendants or the jurors. Or the media.
I do think it would be hard for this one to get a completely unbiased jury. If he gets the maximum penalty it would make me wonder. What would be "fair?" It seems like every single day I hear sirens blaring, there was a fatality just last week that was probably one of many in this county. I wanna cry every time I hear the helicopter with the sirens. If there are any more of those monuments the roads will look like a rolling cement cemetery. What about all the rest of the other DUI' cases? Bear in mind the media is milking this one for every red cent. Life isn't fair but he shouldn't get 20 yrs when another gets nearly that many in probation only. Think of how all the pill mills have made the news here, pain clinics..... Theres probably more drunks driving than you'd ever want to imagine, so DRIVE DEFENSIVELY.
drive defensively, the life you save may be your own.

The OJ thing upset me terribly too but its important to understand what that was about so that everyone can move on, heal and grow. I've spent lots of time talking about the case with friends in the black community. Their explanations have helped me understand what the cheering was about....at the time I don't think people could separate their own experiences with being falsely accused with OJ's situation. People were cheering because of all the times they have been accused of shoplifting at the mall even though they paid for their items, or all the times they have been pulled over then frisked while driving on Palm Beach just for being black. From what I have gathered most of the people who cheered long ago are now quite certain that he committed the crimes.

I'm hoping I'm just confused on this reply. It sounds like your defending these people for killing someone while they were drunk. I understand people make horrible decisions while intoxicated but to me that is no excuse. Taking a life is taking a life. I agree with equsician that the media is after Goodman more for the fact that he wouldn't even own up to hitting the young man and made no effort at all to save him. Yes he probably would have not been able to get him out of the car but he didn't even try. All he cared about was himself. As for the other people who got lesser sentences..... that is what I would be mad about. Why should they get away with probation for taking someones life. That is mind boggling to me.
