The Palm Beach Post on line has a small article about it- apparently the rider is in his 70's, and fell off his horse today.  According to the article, his condition is stable.  I am in awe that he is in his 70's and still actively competing!!  Best wishes for a full recovery.

So glad to here it wasn't worse!  We don't 'bounce' as well at 70.  Posse has a 73 y/o
Pleasure rider and barrel racer!  I'm afraid to play raquetball anymore!

It was Don Little and it happened during The Masters.  The prognosis is very poor.  His family was flying down today.

WELLINGTON — A man in his 70s fell off his horse during a competitive jump at the Winter Equestrian Festival this morning and was flown by Trauma Hawk to the Delray Medical Center.

Festival President Michael Stone said Don Little competes every week, but this morning his horse stumbled after jumping a fence and Little fell off. Stone said about 3 p.m. that the latest report he received indicated Little was stable. Little fell on his head, causing a neck injury, Stone said.

"Riding horses can be hazardous," Stone said, and falls are common, but most do not cause the serious level of injury Little apparently sustained.

Press Release

Death of Don Little

February 29, 2012 - Donald V. Little died peacefully late this afternoon from injuries sustained on Sunday, February 26, when his horse fell while jumping a fence during the Masters Classic in the International Arena at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.

Judith A. Little, Don's wife of 57 years, said, "I will miss him so much. Donald died doing what he loved. He was loved and respected by so many people, including his fellow competitors, partners and team members in the horse worlds of polo, field hunting, show jumping and thoroughbred racing as well as in all other aspects of his life."

Don was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and spent most of his adult life as a resident of Ipswich, MA. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and was an avid pilot and a U.S. Air Force veteran where he was the youngest aircraft commander in the Strategic Air Command. He was also captain of Myopia Hunt Club Polo for 18 years, past president of the United States Polo Association, current Master of the Foxhounds of the Myopia Hunt Club, and Founder and Chairman of Centennial Farms which raced winners of many stakes races, including the Belmont Stakes in 1993 and the inaugural Breeders Cup Dirt Mile in 2007. Professionally, he was a highly successful broker and investment manager at UBS and its predecessor companies, PaineWebber and Kidder Peabody.

In addition to his wife Judy, Don is survived by a son, Donald V. Little, Jr., and a daughter, Andrea Little Eaton, both of Ipswich, MA, a sister Patricia Moseley of Hamilton, MA, a brother, Crocker Snow, Jr. of Ipswich, MA, a brother, Andrew J. Little of Chipping Norton, England, and grandchildren Tapley D. Eaton, Donald V. Little, III, James D. Little and Isabella H. Eaton.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Our thoughts and prayers to his family- he touched quite a few lives, and seemed to enjoy life in general.
