Does anyone know if there are any local herb farms in the area that sell retail? South Florida has so many speciality farms that I was hoping there might be one. Is there any directory of local produce growers that sell directly to consumers (aside from new place on 441 a few miles south of Boynton Beach Blvd). Thanks.

There is one on the South West Corner of "D" and Okeechobbee.. they are not open on Sundays.. the owner David Anderson makes beautiful herb arrangements and also sells single container herbs.

Well worth the trip.

Regarding locally grown produce, I've been looking into a subscription service which provides local produce and supports local farmers.  Google CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Farmers, Slow Food.

Farmer's Daughter on Southern Blvd in Loxahatchee sells local produce.

Try also localharvest.org, which allows you to search by zip code for local farmers and events.

Sacred Garden in Lake Worth is having an herb growing class May 6.  The local herb society meets at Mounts Botanical, they would know where you could get locally grown herbs.  I wasn't clear on whether you wanted them as plants or herbs ready to cook, but I find that the price of plants are the same as buying a package of fresh herbs in the grocery store, many are very easy to grow.

There are a number of growers that set up at the Palm Beach Gardens Green Market on Sundays.

Whole Foods has  a pretty good selection.  You can always order seeds on line, too.

Please support local farmer markets that allow people to pay with WIC and food stamps. Low income families who have little access to health care typically can not afford to eat fresh fruits and vegetables making them prone to diabetes, heart disease and obesity. The movie Food Inc illustrates this point very well! It is available online, in stores and at most libraries. If you have food to donate please consider the food pantry at St. Ann in downtown WPB! Thank you  Grin

I met with a gal yesterday at our farm who is a Botonist, Herbalist and Horticulturist from New Hampshire. who is surveying our farm to put in a community garden-if this comes through we will have healing herbs for horses and unusual Indian herbs and fruit and vegetables-off southern and 441. - will keep you posted.
