I recently had to perform the misfortunate task of humanely euthanizing a horse with EEE last week. The results came back yesterday positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.  I urge all horse owners to call their veterinarians if they have not had their encephalitis shot in  over 6 months. This (+/-)25.00 shot can save your horse's life...If you do not have an established vet, you are always welcome to call my cell at 561-324-6702 for an appt. Thankyou for reading this.  Dr. Gesoff

Thank you for posting this in the event that this shot got somehow would have gotten  forgotten about could prove to  be FATAL.

I know for me, I am double checking to make sure.

It is nice when vets come on this board to remind us of very serious issues like this.

Thank you for taking the time to post this.

So sad for the horse and the owners ... please offer our condolences to the owners for us.  We are going to put this post in the Wellington News category so it will stay viable for a while .. things in this classified section go out of sight too soon .........

Do you also charge a barn visit charge for coming to give the EEE shot?

Why wouldn't a vet charge for coming and giving a shot?
If you want to avoid a barn charge haul over to the vet directly.

From my understanding, the euthanized horse DID NOT have shots for over a year and maybe longer (if ever).  These flu-vac combo shots are done twice yearly from my experience and many many people do them just once annually which is better than nothing.  What are your thoughts?

"EEE" stands for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, which is a virus transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito.
