General Classified / Classified / Re: Seeking horse trailer reviews

First aluminum horse trailer that I had was a Dream Coach, very nice trailer....heavy aluminum trailer with nice welds. I upgraded to a living quarters and went with a Lakota....awesome trailer, it is one of the lightest LQ trailer, I pulled it with a 250.
Both are great trailers, have not heard anything bad about either one. Have heard about Hart too, they are good and stable trailers. A friend of mine had one like a trailer-et....fiberglass and aluminum. She had 3 horses, one refused to get in. Once she upgraded to all aluminum she had no problem getting him in. Don't know if it was the trailer or not but she paid 2 trainers to get him in and they could not get him in either.

I reposted your post to Facebook (Swip-Swap) and have had a fantastic response. People are talking about adding a bale or two to each of their own orders and have it on standby to be delivered when needed. Others have went to the website and donated cash. If you are even thinking a little bit about this organization I think you should go take a look. What an outstanding place.

Can not recommend Reiki or massage treatment but can tell you to try Salonpas patches. I have had two back surgeries and still have hernitated discs, the only thing that helps with the pain and soreness is the patches. You can buy them at Costco, 120 patches for under $7.00. Just put them where you hurt. You can wear them all day or all night....nothing better and not like icy hot.

Amy, I sent you an email about one story idea but even more horsey related....how about a follow up on the adopted horses, I don't know if you can but maybe before and after pictures to let people know how these poor babies can come back from the bones they were before and how much the new owners love them.

One of my horses has skin allergies. I use Healthy Coat and have not had the itchy scratchy skin problems like she had in the past. My other horse is a bay, you can see his shinny coat from a mile away. They both look great. Love the product, it has a lot of vitamins and supplements. I but it from Silver Spur because they get it in the 2 1/2 gallon size for me.
Love it!

My neighbor uses the corn cob bedding, everytime I go by a Tractor Supply I pick her up as many bags as I can. She uses the CCB in the horses usual pee spot. The CC is coarse but VERY absorbant. It does clump like kitty litter and she says it is very cost effective. The Tractor Supply in Clewiston is really about 30 to 40 minutes away....make a trip out of it and you can have lunch at Sunny's or go to the one in Ft Pierce..there is Cracker Barrel or Red Lobster and if you feel a little crazy head up the road a little more to the outlet mall!!! PS - call first as we might have raided Tractor Supply first.

General Classified / Classified / Re: HELPING "DEER RUN" HORSES
|
on: September 02, 2012, 03:40:04 PM

Palm Beach Animal Care and Control has been airboating in feed and hay to stranded livestock and horses...I believe mostly in DeerRun. They are suggesting anyone that wants to help can donate to any of the area feed stores. Just call and tell them you would like to donate to ACC. The donations would be very helpful because it is feared a lot of animals might be given up soon do to extra costs associated with the floods. I am sure most people think the owners can afford to take care of their own, but sadly that does not seem to be the case.....whether can not or will not. Remember they are probably facing a lot more expenses of feed, hay, and now vet bills. ACC is predicting horses and livestock will be given up due to increasing costs (feed and vet care) so they are expecting to take in horses. A very sad situation all the way around. Thank you for all your help.

If any if you are able to spare anything for our neighbors, please contact me. We will be meeting the airboat at 10 am. Even something as simple as a few flakes of hay or horse spay is appreciated.

|
on: August 22, 2012, 05:41:51 AM
|

I have really been trying not to post on this topic but I just have to. To say the deputies murdered these dogs.....yes the dogs are victims here but so are the deputies. I am in law enforcement and would be devastated if I had to shoot a dog but my motto is "I (and my people) go home safe at night." Everyone is so quick to jump on a blog and post about "those cops/deputies" maybe those with the quick fingers on the keyboards should put up or shut up. Try to walk/ride a night in our boots. When you HAVE to go to a house or out with a suspect...you have no choice, you do not have the luxury to say "excuse me nice sir, would you please put up your puppies?", you have to go in and do what you have to do. Our jobs require that we go into certain situations where we have to take deadly force.....even against dogs. When you start talking about us using our tasers or pepperspray, yes these are less than lethal force tools that we have but they are not always something we could use in certain situations. For one, if the deputy used his/her taser, it only has one shot so he/she would have only been able to hit one dog....what are the other two going to be hit with? And if the deputy missed then he/she would have to transition to their handgun....this would take valuable time and could allow the deputy to be injured. Pepperspray against three dogs....not a good idea either, maybe if it was against one but spraying 3 dogs when they are rushing you, odds are you will not be able to spray all three. Bottom line is the owner put the dogs in harms way, why not bash the owner instead of the deputies. Oh yeah and while we are playing in the yard with the dogs what do you think the owner is doing.....just waiting for the deputies to be done playing with his dogs....sitting on the curb like an upstanding citizen waiting to be put in handcuffs.

My friend makes Gatorade Popsicles (freezes Tupperware bowls) then gives them to her horses...they love it. Also, add watermelon wedges to the waterbucket....some really like that. I have also heard of adding peppermint candies to the water bucket. I too give minerals but to get them to drink sometimes you got to add something fun.

Latest update:
No, he has not been found and David and Vicki are trying to get a group together this weekend. The horse (Gemini) has been missing for 10 days as of today. They still believe he is in the park and alive. First, David was riding Gemini when the saddle became loose, going under the horse who in turn took off. During the searches they have located the stirups but nothing else that I know of. However, they also have not seen buzzards either, which is why they think he is still alive. The park is about 98% fenced, it is down in two spots thanks to a cow.
If you plan on going the Bluefield Ranch is on State Road 70 between I95 and the Beeline. It takes about an hour and a half to get there. I would also suggest bug spray, there were pockets with deer flies, we used human off which stopped them completely.
I will not be going on Saturday because I have to work,I work shift work and from 4 PM to 4 AM, just happened that today fell on my day off. I am sure David and Vicki would be grateful to whoever shows up. I just met them today, they were very nice and extremely concerned about their horse. They can be reached at 561-339-3116.
Good luck, anyone that goes please post how it went and if Gemini has been found. Thanks.

8Belles, please try again.....it is a great place to camp. Before I go not only do I check their web site to check dates I also check the South Fla trail riders web site because if they are going there it will be packed beyond the stall and paddock capabilities. They do not go too often but worth checking first. There are also other great horse camping sites near by like St Sebastian or Hickory Hammock. Very nice too and St Sebastian does not allow hunting so it is open when the others are closed.
