Fostering is a great way to donate your time. Most rescues will provide the food and vet care, they just don't have the space and the man power. It provides a loving home for a pet and helps it adapt to living in a healthy loving environment, verses a caged, overcrowded recue. I even take it one step further and help find a new home .You must follow the guidelines of each rescue. I remember when I first volunteered at a rescue and I had to interview people wanting to adopt ,I thought the rescue was a bit strict on their qualifications, but their intentions are to make sure these animals do NOT end up back at another shelter! Again, if you don't qualify to permanently adopt you may qualify to become a foster to one and its a beautiful thing!

They are now located at the end of F road on the left. I saw all the foals in a very small pen over crowded? I hope they all get adopted soon. So many rescues need to be rescued. I attempted to volunteer there but it was too depressing .I try to help at the dog rescues too but can't stand listening to the dogs barking and crying for help, locked in their little crates. I wish I had the money and land to help them all. I don't know if we ridicule or commend these so called rescues. I wish I was stronger inside to block out what I see in most of these over crowded rescues and help out. For now ,I will volunteer to foster and find homes for one at a time. Remember folks, most of these rescues will let you foster and help pay for the costs until they find a home, so if your like me and can't bare to look at the crowded situations of most rescues ,please call and ask about their fostering.

Lawsuits?class actions? Right now let's focus on how to help those in need, those who lost everything! The poor people in Louisiana are lined up just trying to get food and shelter! Why does our Government jump to aide every foreign country and support every illegal non tax paying immigrant while millions of Americans suffer? Fires in te xas and arizona, tornadoes in kansas and alabama, floods in florida and Louisiana? Good, honest hard working Americans out on the street, homeless, without food and shelter yet every immigrant and foreign country is being taking care of? Now is the time to stick together and show the world we actually give a ed about our own! Have any of you visited an ER room lately? It is flooded with immigrants using it as a dr's office and getting FREE medical care ,yet you and I get hit with a major bill within 10 days of a real emergency visit after waiting hours in line behind immigrants with a cold! How about a class action against congress for giving away our hard earned medicare tax money to non tax payers only to deny US as tax payers! Billions and billions spent each year to medical, food and many social services to every Country and every non citizen just to leave US tapped and stranded!

Everyone knows, after storm effects are the cause of most injuries and diseases! Be smart! Keep the fans going to circulate air, just make sure they are not the box fans, most round hampton fans have automatic shut offs when heated, read the manufacture details and make sure they are safe! This is very disappointing. Years ago during a flood I saw a horse standing up to his chest in flood waters and lOoking very distressed I walked him almost a half mile thru waste high water contacted owner ,the owner did not call me back for over 3 weeks!I provided full care for this horse, fed watered hayed ,bathed .When owner finally showed up to pick his horse up he did not offer me a penny! I found out he was wealthy and was on vacation when the floods were here. During these times we need to all help each other. If people don't have the finances to help at least volunteer to help by sharing some of the care! These people should be ashamed of themselves! Despite my experiences I will continue to help in any way I can.... So sorry to have had to endure this.... And...thank you to all who have helped! Don't let the few ignorant, lazy ones take away your spirit!

SOUTHWEST RANCHES (CBS4) - A sickening crime unfolded in Southwest Ranches this past weekend as a former racehorse and beloved family pet was stolen in the dark of night and slaughtered for his meat.
?Investigators with the Broward Sheriff’s Office say they’ve never seen a crime like this in Southwest Ranches — which is known for stables and wide open fields.
BSO says the horse named Marco was stolen from his unlocked pen sometime Friday night or Saturday morning.
The horse’s owners say the thieves removed some wooden planks that enclosed the pen, led Marco along a dirt path behind their property then killed the horse and butchered him for his meat.
“It’s like losing a family member,” said David Parga, whose family owns Marco. “This wasn’t livestock and the person that took this animal clearly knew that people cared for him. It’s inhuman to me.”
Parga and his family took in Marco several years ago as a rescue and the horse shared a pen with another horse, Sophie.
David Parga said his father always wanted a horse and is devastated by Marco’s killing.
“To have horses was a dream come true for him,” Parga told CBS4?s Carey Codd. “He’s just in pieces over it.”
The Broward Sheriff’s Office says this is a case unlike any they’ve seen.
“It’s not only rare,” BSO Spokesperson Jim Leljedal. “It doesn’t happen. We have never had this happen in Southwest Ranches before. We’re determined to make this is the only case in Southwest Ranches history.”
But Richard Couto with ARM — Animal Recovery Mission — has seen it elsewhere in Florida. Couto says the slaughter of horses for their meat has been going on for decades in the state.
Couto says there are some cultures that believe eating horse meat, and particularly thoroughbred meat, can make you stronger and cure diseases.
“It actually causes cancer,” Couto explained. “It causes birth defects in women if consumed by pregnant women. It’s a dangerous product. It’s a sick mentality and it’s something that needs to stop.”
Marco’s owners can barely comprehend such a painful attack on their beloved pet. They want the people who did this caught and punished.
“I’m angry,” said Parga. “But most of all I want them to know that there are many people crying, staying up all night, crying and hurting because of what they did.”
Couto said there was an attack like this in Miramar a few years back where 2 horses were slaughtered.
In Miami-Dade in 2011, more than a dozen horses were slaughtered. Couto said there is a market for horse meat and it can bring in anywhere from $7 to $40 a pound.
If you know anything about this crime call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.

In the redlands and Miami it was Cuban. The Media dropped the story because of the "Race Card" ! All these illegals coming here seem to want a piece of the "American dream" but want to live their "Culture" they don't want to assimilate to Our culture! Even if they eat horse meat in their home lands it gives them NO right to trespass and brutally slaughter someone's pet ALIVE! These horses are being butchered alive! Did you see the 2 mares they butchered ? The foals were trying to nurse their mothers skinned bodies!

Sounds like a neighbor from hell but the dogs are the victims here! Officers should be held accountable for murdering 3 innocent animals. In None of the articles did I read that the deputies were in any danger from these dogs. Sounds like they were very frustrated with this Woodman criminal and took it out on innocent dogs. Did the dogs commit a crime? Did they injure any one? Have they ever hurt anyone? Not according to any of the articles. Woodman seems to make it his full time job to torture people and maybe a little lead to his head would be justice! But the dogs are innocent and are now dead.Woodman and the deputies should both be held accountable.

8belles Just Google Dogs shot in Loxahatchee florida and you will get a dozen hits even a video. Again, none of it makes sense. I hold Woodman and the Deputies 100 per cent responsible! These dogs did nothing to deserve to be shot! Most dogs will approach ALL trespassers on their property, that's their job. Good God,I hope my dogs don't get shot the next time they approach someone coming onto my property.the article reads ,Woodman let Deputies onto Property,if so....what was the confusion about the dogs....- If I were the owners of the dogs and property,Woodman would be gone and I would sue these deputies! What a horrible travesty and Woodmans is out on his own the 3 dogs dead ,owners suffering the loss of their dogs and deputies still employed....got to love our justice system!!!!

?? Here is what I found. I don't understand why the officers didn't ask this guy to put the dogs away. This guy they picked up on the warrant was NOT the property owner nor the owner of the dogs. Why did the dogs need to suffer for any of these people? I question why,if this man was SO dangerous,he was let out the next day? "Woodman was released from jail on his own recognizance."
.
Deputy shoots, kills 3 charging dogs during arrest? . The Associated Press Related Content LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. -- Authorities say a sheriff's deputy shot and killed three dogs who charged at him during an arrest in Palm Beach County.
http://bit.ly/S0rmly
http://www.pbpost.com
The Palm Beach Post ( http://bit.ly/S0rmly) reported Friday that the owner of the dogs is considering a lawsuit against the sheriff's department.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says two deputies went to the Loxahatchee home Tuesday to arrest 48-year-old Ricky Woodman on a violation of parole charge. When the dogs charged at them, one of the deputies fired multiple shots.
The newspaper reports Bryan Thomas was out of town when his dogs were shot. He says Woodman is a longtime employee who allowed the deputies on the property. He says the dogs have no history of biting people.
Woodman was released from jail on his own recognizance.

General Category / Welcome to Wellington-WEF Forum; General Information / Re: West Nile
|
on: August 18, 2012, 06:39:46 PM
|
|
DOGS and WEST NILES! Here are some interesting facts about WNV. How do people and animals get West Nile virus?
West Nile virus is transmitted to people and animals (birds and horses) by infected mosquitoes. Only certain species of mosquitoes carry the virus and very few mosquitoes are actually infected.
Are there other ways of getting West Nile virus?
In rare instances, West Nile virus can be transmitted through blood transfusion, organ transplants, and from mother to fetus and breast feeding infants. Pregnant and nursing mothers are encouraged to avoid mosquitoes. Consult a physician for additional information.
What are the symptoms?
Most people who are infected with West Nile virus have no symptoms. Of those who become ill, symptoms may include fever, headache, body aches, nausea, skin rash, and/or swollen lymph nodes. Symptoms will generally last a few days. In severe cases, encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), meningitis (inflammation of the membrane surrounding the brain) or inflammation of both the brain and the membrane may occur. Severe symptoms may include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, disorientation, coma, tremors, paralysis, and possibly death. Neurological damage may be permanent. At greatest risk are people over the age of 50, the elderly, and those who have weakened immune systems. The incubation period, or the time between the mosquito bite and the onset of illness, ranges from 3-15 days in humans. It is estimated that one in 150 who are infected with West Nile virus will require hospitalization.
Is there a vaccine for humans?
No, currently there is no WNV vaccination for humans.
Which animals get West Nile virus?
An infected mosquito can bite any animal, but not all animals will become infected. The disease most often affects birds (crows, ravens, magpies, and jays), but occasionally causes disease in other animals as well.
If you find a dead bird, particularly a crow or other corvid (i.e. raven, jay, or magpie) please call the California Department of Public Health hotline at 1-877-WNV-BIRD. Not all birds will qualify for testing, but they will record all reports of dead birds.
To move or discard a carcass, wear rubber or latex gloves. If gloves are not available, use a plastic bag turned inside-out over your hand and invert the bag to surround the bird. Seal and discard in the trash if the bird will not be picked-up for testing.
Horses are also susceptible to West Nile virus. The disease does not seem to be specific to a particular breed or age of horse. Many horses infected with West Nile virus will not develop any illness. Of those that do become ill, approximately 30% die or must be destroyed. If your horse becomes infected, it is not contagious to you or to other horses. Clinical signs can include a lack of coordination, stumbling, circling, falling, weakness or partial paralysis of limbs, muscle twitching (especially around nose and lips), an inability to rise, and grinding teeth. There are two different vaccinations available for horses. The timing of these vaccines is critical because they must be administered prior to disease exposure. Contact a veterinarian for advice.
Does West Nile virus affect dogs and cats?
Dogs and cats rarely show illness if infected with West Nile virus. The National Animal Poison Control Center warns that insect repellant should not be used on pets. Cats are highly sensitive to the chemicals, and both dogs and cats lick themselves and could ingest toxins from the repellents. So far, cats and dogs have been fairly resistant to the virus.
What can you do to help?
Since mosquitoes breed in standing water, you can help stop the mosquito life cycle and West Nile virus transmission by eliminating standing water on your property. Eliminate standing water by dumping or draining water in negelected swimming pools, ponds, rain barrels, discarded tires, buckets, or anything container capable of holding water for more than a few days. You can significantly contribute ot the fight against West NIle virus by following these simple actions. Remember, if they can't breed, they can't bite.
How to protect yourself and your family
Avoid activity at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active
Apply mosquito repellent containing the active ingredient DEET when outside
Wear protective clothing (loose, light colored, long sleeve shirts and pants)

Frank Chapot Recovering From Surgery
By: Molly Sorge
??
?Print?
Show jumper Frank Chapot, who won team silver at the 1960 Rome and 1972 Munich Olympic Games, is recovering from brain surgery to repair a subdural hematoma.
Chapot, 80, jumped for the United States in six Olympic Games between 1956 and 1976 and then served as the U.S. show jumping chef d’equipe for 24 years, from 1980 to 2004. Under his watch, U.S. show jumpers won team gold and individual gold and silver at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and team gold at the 1986 World Championships and the 2004 Sydney Olympic Games. His teams took silver at the 1988 and 1996 Olympic Games.
Chapot is also known for breeding and training the famous Gem Twist, who earned team and individual silver at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games with Greg Best riding. Chapot’s daughter, Laura, is a noted grand prix rider. She won the $75,000 Chartis Grand Prix on Umberto on July 29 at the HITS-On-The-Hudson V horse show (N.Y.), which Chapot's wife, Mary, said cheered him.
“They think [the subdural hematoma] was caused by a fall, but I can’t confirm that he fell,” said Mary. “We don’t really know what might have caused it. He was gradually getting more unsteady on his feet when we got home from Lake Placid, and a little bit drifty in his mind.”
Alarmed, Mary took Frank to the emergency room on July 24, where doctors diagnosed the subdural hematoma. “They were able to relieve the pressure. It took a day or so to stop the bleeding, but now he’s doing much better. He got out of the Intensive Care Unit yesterday, and is starting with rehabilitation,” Mary continued.
“The prognosis is good. We really appreciate everyone’s well wishes. He’s got a lot of friends and it’s been wonderful to hear from them.”
